Set up Tips and Tricks

1. I want to leave my Cable Box (or other device) on all the time.

The Fix: Set to manual control

In the activity page

  • Squid eye
  • Device name
  • PowerMode
  • The choices available are:

Default: An automatically created device power on/off macro which uses both toggle and discrete codes when both are available.

Use Toggle codes: Many devices do not have or do not respond to discrete POWER ON and POWER OFF codes. In that case toggle codes are appropriate.

Use Discrete Codes: Higher end TVs and Amplifiers have individual codes for POWER ON and POWER OFF and this is the best choice for these devices.

Set Power On sequence: Lets you set up a power on macro. Most users don’t need this.

Set Power Off sequence: Lets you set up a power off macro. Most users don’t need this.

Control Manually: Select this if you want a device to stay on all the time. A good setting for cable boxes and DVRs.

  • Exit the page with the X
  • Save Changes

You can still switch it on or off using the manual buttons which appear when you touch the squid eye.

HINT: for power on/off the squid eye in the logo on the startup page works too.

2. Channel Up/Down goes 2 or 3 channels at a time.

The Fix: Adjust repeats setting downward.

In the activity page

  • Squid eye
  • Device name
  • Repeats
  • Set to 1
  • Exit the page with the X
  • Save Changes

HINT: a long press will still go several channels at a time.

3. Using the Keypad or Favorites the correct channel number is not selected.

The Fix: Adjust delay between digits In the activity page

  • Squid eye
  • Device name
  • Interchannel Delay
  • Change setting
  • Exit the page with the X
  • Save Changes

The three digits represent the delay in milliseconds (1000 milliseconds = 1 second) between digits. The default is 400 which works for most but not all devices.

If it is too long the channel will change before all the digits are sent, so selecting channel 123 would go to channel 12. If it is too short then one or more digits will be missed. Selecting 123 would go to 13.

HINT: This varies a lot between cable boxes. Adding the E key at the end will make it change channels faster on some boxes.
